The 2001 NCACAA Annual Meeting begins officially on Wednesday, June 27 and concludes on Thursday, June 28 but we have several "Early-Bird" events planned for Tuesday, June 26. The Holiday Inn SunSpree is the site for this year's Annual Meeting. The Holiday Inn SunSpree will take your room reservations now by calling them at 1-800-733-3211 or at 828-254-3211. When making your reservations, please identify yourself with the North Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents to secure our special rates. The deadline for room reservations is May 27, 2001. After May 27, rooms are available on a space available basis and rates increase. Do Not use their online reservations site to make your reservations.

The Agenda

Come early (Tuesday, June 26) and enjoy one of our "Early-Bird" events. If Golf is your game or even if it's not, enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the links at Maggie Valley Resort and Country Club with your buddies or make new friends. Maybe you would rather spend the afternoon rafting down the Nantahala River. We guarantee there will be no alligators! If you want to stay indoors, then consider a trip to Harrah's Casino.

A barbecue supper will be served from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the hospitality room on Tuesday evening.

The registration and information desk will be open from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26 and all day Wednesday and Thursday.

The NCACAA Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26.

Wednesday (June 27) morning will feature professional improvement tours beginning at 7:30 a.m. Biscuits, juice and coffee will be served on the buses! Choose from the Aquaculture, Vegetables, Dairy or Horticulture Mountain Style tours. We will arrive back at the hotel around 11:30 for our opening luncheon.

The afternoon tours will begin at 2:00. If you are interested in buffalo and livestock feeding facilities, cattle backgrounding and the Waynesville Research Station, Blue Ridge Paper Mill or a tour of the NC Arboretum, then there's one for you.

It's cookout time!! The tours will end by carrying you directly to the Haywood County Fairgrounds where you will enjoy a relaxing evening filled with good food and entertainment. It all starts at 6:00 p.m. Whenever you are ready to leave, the buses will transport you back to the hotel where the hospitality room will be open until...

Thursday morning will feature a recognition breakfast from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. The general business session begins at 9:00 a.m. and concludes around 11:00 a.m.

Following the luncheon, we have three Professional Development sessions to choose from, "Balancing Professional and Personal Priorities", "Weather Forecasting" and "Investing for Retirement and/or College". Each session will be offered twice.

The banquet begins at 6:30 p.m. where we will recognize our outstanding agents with the Distinguished Service, Achievement, Young Agents Scholarships and Service to Agriculture Awards. Then sit back and enjoy the mountain humor and stories as told by Orville Hicks.

Spouse and Children Activities

Spouses and children are invited to participate in Early-Bird events on Tuesday, June 26 and the morning and afternoon tours on Wednesday, June 27. Also, a special tour to Chimney Rock Park is planned. Thursday, June 28 there will be a shopping tour to the Folk Art Center and Biltmore Village's specialty shops. For the kids, there will be a trip to an 1800's pioneer farmstead, a Health Adventure Brain Teasers and the Western NC Nature Center.

Thursday night, we are back at the hotel for a pizza party.
