John Queen Farm & Mountain Research Station

Contact Tom Harvey for additional information.

John Queen operates a preconditioning program, bringing calves purchased at salebarns to the operation for a 45 day program. Most of the cattle leave for feedlots in the west, however some are summer grazed here in Haywood. Additionally some cattle are shipped to the midwest for roping and penning competitions. He has a one-time capacity of over 1000 head. He feeds least cost rations utilizing by-product feeds. Mr. Queen and his staff utilize some interesting fly control techniques with excellent success.

The Mountain Research Station, located in Waynesville, is home to many different projects. Burley Tobacco and Beef Stocker research are two of the main components being studied at the station. Additionally the Waynesville Bull Station is located at the station, as is an extensive Goat project. There are Christmas Trees, Blackberries, Tomatoes, and a variety of Forage Crop species under investigation.
