NCACAA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT GENERAL RULES

  1. This is a single elimination tournament.

  2. Only currently employed members of the NCACAA are eligible to play.

  3. Only the players listed on the roster at the start of the tournament are eligible to play. A coin toss will determine the home team.

  4. Team must have minimum of nine players.

  5. Ten (10) players can play in the field.

  6. Batting line-up will be the players in the field (up to 10) and each team can have an extra hitter; therefore, the batting order can have a maximum of 11 players.

  7. Games will be limited to one hour or five innings (which ever comes first).

  8. Batter will have a 1-1 count when they come to the plate (1 ball, 1 strike).

  9. After a batter has 2 strikes, he can hit foul balls, but will be called out on the second foul ball.

  10. Umpires will call balls and strikes.

  11. Stealing bases is not allowed.

  12. Except for the championship game, each team will be limited to 10 runs per inning for the first four innings. In the fifth inning runs will be unlimited.  The championship game will be played to seven innings with no limitations on runs per inning or time.

  13. There are no set requirements for the gender makeup of each team.

  14. The tournament will be held rain or shine. In the event of rain, the tournament will go to on pitch per batter. Each batter will get one pitch. The batter can hit the ball or if pitch is ruled a ball, batter will receive a walk. If pitch is called a strike, batter will be called out. The first two foul balls will receive another pitch. On the third foul ball, the batter will be called out.

  15. There will be unlimited (free) substitution but the batting order must remain the same.   (For example, if a player bats 5th then he/she will always bat 5th. If there is a substitution for 5th spot then the starter or the substitute can bat 5th but neither can bat in other spots in the batting order.)

  16. Substitute runners can be used after the batter reaches base.

  17. If no substitute runners (team members not currently in the game) are available from the   bench, then allow the person who made the previous out be the runner.

  18. All umpire decisions on the field will be final.

  19. Each team is responsible for furnishing their team with all safety equipment, bats, gloves, etc. Softballs will be provided.

  20. All players, on roster, must be registered for meeting and paid in FULL!!!

  21. If you play the field you must bat.

  22. Standard slow-pitch softball rules will apply.

  23. We will have paid referees for all games.

  24. Specialists who are paying members can play (they must specify which district team they will play for only once).

  25. District Extension Directors who are registered for the State Meeting can play for their district team if they desire.

  26. Teams may (if they desire) bat 11 while playing only 10 in the field.

  27. If a team in the field purposely walks a male batter to get to pitch to a female batter, the female batter has an option to take a walk or swing away.

  28. When a runner is within 15 feet of home plate, the defensive team has the option to tag home plate for a force-out or they can tag the runner.

  29. There will be no last minute rule changes (all rule changes go before the NCACAA Softball Committee and then are approved by the NCACAA State Board).
