We are pleased to announce "A Summit on the Future of ANR/CRD Extension Programs in North Carolina" to be held June 25-27 at the Gateway Convention Center, Rocky Mount, NC. The program will enable extension workers to be involved in both independent and collective thinking about future directions for ANR/CRD programs, including urban horticulture and other community oriented programs. The Deans, Director and Administrator of NC Cooperative Extension are fully supportive of this effort.

The planning team of agents and specialists has received input from various colleagues and leaders in our organization to develop an exciting and engaging program. This program is being supported by private contributions and Extension administration at NC A &T SU and NCSU. We plan to cover the per diem costs of the meeting for those extension workers who participate.

Goals

• Allow clients, agents, and specialists working with agriculture, natural resources and community development extension programs to focus on plans for the future of these educational programs. Determine who will be and/or should be our clientele, what challenges can we expect to face, and how we as an organization should deal with these challenges.
• Develop a plan for programmatic relevance for the future of educational programs in agriculture and natural resources for the NC Cooperative Extension Service that embraces the diversity of our state's agriculture, services the educational needs of the clientele, and helps them to prosper.
• Strengthen and expand close and mutually supportive working relationships between all aspects of agriculture, natural resources, and community development programs in North Carolina.

• explore and project how our industries and communities will change
• identify priority programs to meet needs in the changing environment
• discuss meeting educational needs of diverse audiences

• summarize finding from the summit
• set the stage for future discussions and processes for developing the roadmap
