In 2008-2009, one entry was submitted to the NACAA Horticulture Awards Program (Pre-AM Horticulture Tour) by Cyndi Lauderdale. Cyndi Lauderdale was selected to take the tour in Portland, Oregon. Another North Carolina agent, Danny Lauderdale, was selected because they had additional openings available on the tour.
In September 2002 the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service lost one of our Horticulture Agents, Lewis Stillman Howe III, to a heart attack. It was suggested to start a scholarship in Howe's name. This $500 professional improvement scholarship will be given yearly at the NCACAA State meeting. In 2008-2009, one entry was received and awarded to Cyndi Lauderdale.
It has been a pleasure to serve as the Horticulture Chair this past year. I encourage all Agricultural Agents working in horticulture to apply for these awards.
