In 2007-2008, for the third year in a row, zero entries were submitted to the NACAA Horticulture Awards Program.
In September 2002 the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service lost one of our Horticulture Agents, Lewis Stillman Howe III, to a heart attack. It was suggested to start a scholarship in Howe's name. This $500 professional improvement scholarship will be given yearly at the NCACAA State meeting. In 2007-2008, for the third year in a row, zero entries were received.
It has been a pleasure to serve as the Horticulture Chair this past year although disappointing the lack of applications. I encourage all Agricultural Agents working in horticulture to apply for these awards.
