There are now 7 awards that the Recognition and Awards Committee is responsible for. They include Distinguished Service Award (DSA) for NCACAA members with more than 10 years of service; Achievement Award (AA) for NCACAA members with less than 10 years of service; The Service to Agriculture Award for someone who has made significant contributions to agriculture in North Carolina or the region; Young Agent Scholarship Award for agents who shall not be over 30 years of age, with 5 years of service or less by October 1st of the year nominated; NACAA's Hall Of Fame; and the 'Ort Scholarship Award', which is new.
Dr. Jon Ort, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Associate Dean and Director along with his wife Debbie have established this award to recognize members of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Faculty and Staff. Each Association should select an individual who demonstrates exceptional capabilities to "help North Carolina's people put knowledge to work" through their professional leadership and vision. The Dr. Jon and Mrs. Debbie Ort Scholarship Award for Outstanding Cooperative Extension Personnel Award is given through the Extension Foundation and has August 15th application deadline.
Our committee's awards have a different application deadline than the other awards programs. We are using electronic submission for the state awards. NACAA applications are now completed and submitted on-line. Application forms will be revised for 2009. Applicants will only need to complete the North Carolina Forms to apply.

Each district will continue to select awards recipients as they deem appropriate and effective.
We have established a policy on submitting names for potential recognition. Each district will send the names of their nominees to the State Chair before applications are completed. The list of nominees will then be forwarded onto Extension Administration for review and approval. The District Chairs will be notified of administration's recommendations and proceed with submitting nomination materials. Each district is encouraged to have an alternate candidate identified to avoid losing a nomination slot.
Only applications approved by the District Chairs will be accepted. District Chairs are responsible for sending completed information to the State Chair. Districts are urged to make sure that persons nominated will be able to attend the appropriate recognition banquet(s) to receive their award.
