Recognition and Awards Committee Report

2005 - 2006

There are 4 awards that the Recognition and Awards Committee has traditionally been responsible for. The Distinguished Service Award for agricultural agents/specialists with more than 10 years of service (DSA); The Achievement Award for agricultural agents/specialists with less than 10 years of service (AA); The Service to Agriculture Award for someone who has made significant contributions to agriculture in NC or the region; and The Young Agent Scholarship Award for agents who shall not be over 30 years of age, with 5 years of service or less by October 1st of the year nominated. This year our committee had an additional award, NACAA's Hall Of Fame, added.

These awards have a different application deadline than the other awards programs. 2006 Applicants will only need to complete the North Carolina Forms to apply. The application/nomination form required by NACAA will be sent electronically to DSA and AA winners by the committee chair.

Each district will continue to select awards recipients as they deem appropriate and effective. We have established a policy on submitting names for potential recognition. Each district will send the names of their nominees to the State Chair before applications are completed. The list of nominees will then be forwarded onto Extension Administration for review and approval. The District Chairs will be notified of administration's recommendations and proceed with submitting nomination materials. Each district is encouraged to have an alternate candidate identified to avoid losing a nomination slot.

Only applications approved by the District Chairs will be accepted. District Chairs are responsible for sending completed information to the State Chair. Districts are urged to make sure that persons nominated will be able to attend the appropriate recognition banquet(s) to receive their award.

The 2006 Awards Winners are as follows:

DSA: Kathryn Holmes
Malcolm (Mac) Gibbs
Kathy Bunton
AA: Tommy Grandy
Tyrone Fisher
Eileen Coite
Young Agent Scholarship Award: Eve Honeycutt
Service To Agriculture: Deborah Johnson, Executive Director of the NC Pork Council
Nomination for NACAA Hall Of Fame: George Upton
