Horticulture Report2003 - 2004 | |
---|---|---|
In 2004, a total of 1 County Agent from North Carolina submitted 1 entry in the NACAA Horticulture Awards Program. The entry was of exceptional quality that demonstrates the yearly efforts of County Agricultural Agents. Horticulture entries are sent to the regional chair who rates the applications and sends them to the national horticulture committee for final selection. At the state level, NCACAA provides a plaque to the first and second place winners of the NACAA Horticulture/Turfgrass Study Tour. Finalists are notified if they were selected for the tour. There were no entries for this award. One entry was received for the NACAA Pre-AM/PIC Horticulture workshop and tour. It was sent to the regional chair and finalists will be notified. In September 2002 the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service lost one of our Horticulture Agents, Lewis Stillman Howe III, to an apparent heart attack. It was suggested to start a scholarship in Howe's name. This $500 professional improvement scholarship will be given yearly at the NCACAA State meeting. In 2004, two entries were received. It has been a pleasure to serve as the Horticulture Chair this past year. I encourage all Agricultural Agents working in horticulture to apply for these awards.
