2001 ANNUAL MEETING
I would like to commend the North Carolina members who attended the 2000 AM/PIC in Jackson. This meeting provided numerous professional improvement opportunities for our membership. If you were unable to attend, I hope you have made plans for the New Mexico meeting. The New Mexico agents and spouses have put together a very educational and enjoyable meeting. Tours will incorporate the highlights of New Mexico agriculture, plus historic and sightseeing activities.
Southern Region Meeting: Monday, August 6, 2001 - 3:00 p.m.
Committee Appointments: Congratulations to Bob Edwards on his appointment as Southern Region Vice Chair on the Scholarship Committee. I would encourage you to make application for committee appointments. Applications can be obtained from your president.

NACAA SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT
June 30, 2000
The NACAA Scholarship Committee has had significant changes this year:
- The job descriptions for the committee Chair and Vice Chairs were revised.
- Members may now apply for up to $2,000 from the NACAA Education Fund. The previous maximum was $1,000.
- The Board approved a suggestion of the committee to allow the donors of items to the Annual Scholarship Auction to receive full credit for their donation(s).
- Applicants for NACAA Scholarships are now required to have made a $40 donation by June 30th of the previous year. This is a new rule for this year, adopted by the board of directors last year, upon a recommendation of the committee.
Managing the NACAA Scholarship has been a tremendous challenge for the Committee and the Committee Chair. With that in mind, the Board has approved allowing the Executive Assistant to help maintain the scholarship database. Scott Hawbaker is very willing to assist with this task, and this should help the transition of the database from one Scholarship Committee Chairman to the next.
Upon the recommendation of the Committee Chair, the NACAA Education Foundation Board approved the purchase of an update version of software used in maintaining the scholarship database. The scholarship database now uses "Filemaker Pro 5.0". This upgraded software gives the options of converting the database and reports to MicroSoft EXCEL and to HTML.
Summary of the scholarship database (NACAA Education Fund):
- The fund now has 6870 contributors.
- 455 donors from 35 states donated $15,631.29 this year (July 2, 1999 to June 30, 2000).
- 63 members from 10 states received $18,126.75 in scholarships since the 1999 AMPIC. One group scholarship activity has been delayed due to a hurricane.
- 34 donors to the Education Fund will be honored during the 2000 AMPIC in Jackson, MS.
- The 2000 AMPIC Scholarship Auction is set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8.
- 22 individual and group scholarship applications, requesting about $50,000, will be considered at this year's NACAA Scholarship Selection Committee meeting.
