NACAA Professional Excellence Awards Program Report

NCAA State Meeting
Asheville, NC
June 26-28, 2001

The Professional Excellence Awards Program focuses upon excellence in presentation of both Extension and Research projects primarily in the form of abstracts and posters. This program gives Extension professionals the opportunity to present posters and abstract papers at the NACAA Annual Meeting/Professional Improvement Conference. Any active member of their State Ag Agents' Association is qualified to submit an abstract and poster on an area in which they have conducted quality programs.

National winners can be further recognized by having their poster published in prestigious publications. Awards are given at the National level. Unfortunately, there are no arrangements for monetary or plaque awards at the state level. This needs to be changed. In 2001, we had only one entry, and that was Richard May (Fred) from Pamlico County. Fred was accepted at the Southern Regional level and submitted onto the National. The title of Fred's presentation is "Reducing Soybean Populations for Profit".

Enclosed with this report is a set of guidelines for future applicants in this program. I would strongly encourage other agents across North Carolina to make plans to submit their programs. There are a number of excellent posters and abstract papers each year at the national meeting. We also need a representative from each district to serve on the Professional Excellence Committee. Please do not hesitate to contact me as soon as possible following the national meeting.

I challenge every Extension agent to make an effort to submit for 2001. Let's show the rest of the country that we have plenty of outstanding programs than can be showcased at NACAA AM/PIC.

Respectfully submitted,

Milton Parker
State Committee Chair,
Professional Excellence
