Meeting was held at the NC Arboretum.

10:15am Mike opens meeting
David Curtis introduces Naomie Lavine, Arboretum spokesperson.
She introduced the arboretum covering its:
mission, purpose and grounds. Approximately $10M spent on
arboretum; they expect 1M visitors each year after the entrance is
linked to the Parkway.
J.D. Brooks begins our business session with prayer.
Mike recognizes the 4 retired agents attending as well as one new agent, Terri King in Clay County.
Ross Young passes out the minutes.
Gary Hyatt moved and Tom Harvey seconed to accept minutes with some
minor corrections. (spelling)
Ross passes out the treasurer's report.
Kenneth McCaskill moved and Stanley Holloway seconed to accept the
treasurer's report.
Committee Assignments
Mike passed out new committee member list. He stressed that the
chair of each committe should keep in contact with state chair.
Some changes were made on the committee list:
These changes were to be made and sent to the state board.
Mike mentioned that we are underepresented in the State Association with committe chairpersons. He said he would contact the state VP and promote the issue.
Meetings
Johnny Hensley reported on state and national meetings for 96. He
gave positive remarks.
1997 National meeting will be held in Vermont beginning July 25th.
Mike asked David Curtis to set up travel arrangements to Vermont.
1997 State meeting will be held in Salsbury at the Holiday Inn
June 17-19.
Board Meeting
Johnny reported on the Oct. 4th board meeting in Raleigh.
Ken Bateman is running for National VP in 97. The board voted to
support him. It will cost $12,00.00-$15,000.00 to support him
through the 3 years. The money comes from sponsors, trust fund and
dues.
Federation Report
David Curtis made a Federation report. Their next meeting will be
Dec 12 1996. At this meeting agents will get to express their
concerns with administration. There were seven concerns decided
upon by the Federation to express on this date.
Harvey Fouts asked to add a note about secretaries comparison plan; to keep them paid where they should.
Social for Annual Conference
Mike told us that the Ag. Agents Assoc. is to provide beverages for
the social. The Velvet Cloak Inn on Tuesday from 6-8pm. Joe
Zublena and John Ort have agreed to attend. Harvey Fouts moved and
Maurice McAllister seconed that we allocate up to $150.00; vote
passed.
Chancelor's Visit
Harvey Fouts reported that Chancelor Monteath has planned a two day
visit to the West to listen to what we are doing and hear our
needs.
Day 1 is on Dec. 2 at the Montreat Assembly. Four people from each
county should attend, program assistants and secretaries should be
included.
Day 2 is on Dec. 3 at Grove Park. At least 4 key leaders from each
county should attend to represent us.
Red Book
Maurice reported on a committe meeting concerning the reprint of
the red Extension Fieldbook. We agreed that it was worth wile to
reprint.
Lunch
Tom Harvey moved and Gary Hyatt seconed to take $32.00 from our
account to cover the difference in the cost of lunch. Passed.
Maurice moved and Jim Ray seconed to adjourn for lunch.Lunch was sponsored by Steve Hunter of Dow-Elanco. Ross was asked to send a courtesy letter to Steve.

Association Membership
David Curtis reported that at the last state board meetingdiscussion revolved around whether specialists should be allowed to
be members of the Ag. Agent's Association.
The concensus of our discussion was to leave the issue as it is;
"An unwritten policy that only Ag. Agents be allowed to be members
of the Ag. Agent's Association."
