The fall meeting of the WDACAA was called to order by President Steve Duckett at 10:15 a.m.. No new agents were present to be introduced. The minutes of the May meeting were approved, as posted on the website, following a motion by Kenneth Reeves and a second from Tony McGaha. Ross Young presented the treasurer's report. The report covered the NCACAA 2001 State Meeting held in Asheville. A motion was made by Stanley Holloway and seconded by John Dorner to accept the report as amended.
John Dorner gave a presentation on the concept of developing a template for county websites. This project would give our websites a more professional appearance and help improve our marketing since they would all have similar artwork, graphics and layout. This pilot project is voluntary and right now only for 40 counties in Western North Carolina.
Harvey Fouts, District Extension Director, came in and gave greetings to the association. He gave time for members to ask any burning questions that they may have for him. Questions on travel allocations and E-maps were asked and discussed.
President Steve Duckett gave a report on this past summer's annual meeting results. Past president, Alan Durden, was unable to attend, but asked Steve to thank everyone for their hard work and cooperation. This team work helped make the meeting a success. Kenneth Reeves gave some suggestions for next years planning committee. The first one was to plan for beverages for the morning tours and the second was to calculate in the budget the cost of an extra room, that will be used for the hospitality room.
President Steve Duckett suggested that, due to the amount of information that needs to be put together, members interested in the A.A. and D.S.A. awards begin planning early. Johnny Hensley, State President, reported on the status of this year's AA, DSA, Young Agent Scholarship and Service to Agriculture award nominees. Johnny also reported that the board is wanting input on how the award money should be distributed and at what amounts. They have recently raised the amounts on many of the awards and there is concern that we could spend out the monies in the near future.
Stanley Holloway reported on other news from the state board. It was voted to raise members dues by $15 and retired members dues will be doubled. Stanley reported that Dr. Roger Crickenburger gave a legislative update, discussed reasons for not having annual conference and discussed the importance of agents trying to secure grant money to help carry-out their programs. Next year's state meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Rocky Mount on June 25-27. On Wednesday they would like to hold a district softball game.
John Dorner made a motion and Kenneth Reeves seconded it to send Stanley Holloway as our delegate to the Federation Forum. Steve Duckett was voted on as alternate.
President Steve Duckett set the date for the spring meeting of the WDACAA as Thursday, March 7, 2002 in Henderson County.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m.. Following the meeting the group toured the goat research project at the Mtn. Research Station.
