Tour 14:
Farming on the Urban Edge

Tour sponsored by SARE.

Maple Spring Gardens is a family-owned and operated organic farm where they raise about 80 different varieties of vegetables, cut flowers, and small fruits for sale at local farmers markets.  Next, we will visit Rock of Ages Winery & Vineyard.  Agri-tourism is a big part of this vineyard’s success, as many customers are attracted to the vineyard for tours and special events.  After lunch we will visit Fickle Creek Farm.  This small, sustainable farm raises pastured poultry, pigs, lambs and jersey steers and sells meat and eggs directly to consumers.  Our last stop will be Maple View Farm, a family-owned Holstein dairy farm.  An on-farm bottling facility was constructed in 1996 followed by an on-farm country store selling ice cream and milk products.  The farm is also a leader in the area of conservation easements.
